Nature Island of the Caribbean . We always stay with Hetty and
Clement Pierre Louis our friends at this location in Wotton Waven, Commonwealth
of Dominica. You can purchase property there, however we are not involved

Dominica is the most mountainous island in the Caribbean. Twenty-nine miles
long and sixteen miles wide, it lies in the eastern part of the Caribbean
between Martinique and Guadeloupe as part of the Lesser Antilles. It has
mountain peaks nearly 5000 feet tall covered with beautiful rain forest
and rushing streams. The island is not visited by many tourists and retains
its natural unspoiled splendor. The islands population is approximately
70,000. For more information on Dominica see their web site www.dominica.com
Travel to Dominica: There are no direct flights from the US mainland
to Dominica. One must fly to an intermediate island then take a smaller
plane to Melville Hall or Canefield airport. Gaynell and I usually fly to
San Juan, Puerto Rico on American Airline and then from there to Dominica
on the American Eagle. We can make the trip in one day from Dulles airport
near Washington, D. C. The American Eagle arrives at Melville Hall airport
about 3 in the afternoon and is on the northeast side of the island. This
is a one hour drive from the capital Roseau. A taxi costs about $25USD to
get to Roseau however if you plan to get around a lot, it would be a good
idea to rent a car. This is a former British colony with English as the
normal language and driving on the left side of road.
Amateur Radio: If your interest includes amateur radio then Hettys
cottage is the right place to enjoy this hobby. See photos 6 and 12.
It is easy to obtain your Dominica license. Be sure to take a copy of your
current license. The cost is $25USD per year. It may take several days so
you may want to contact them ahead of time and you would be able to operate
as soon as you arrive. Be sure to bring your 2 meter ht as the Dominica
Amateur Radio Club has several very good repeaters that cover the whole
island. |
